Ring in the New Year with some great music at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on January 1, 2011! One of the bands included in the day’s lineup will be Sky Harbor, a local ban run out of central New Jersey. I have the pleasure of knowing and working with their drummer, 19-year-old Alex Vazquez, who has lent his time volunteering at the Proprietary House with what will more than likely end up as a multi-year renovation and restoration.
He has told me a lot about his band and how hard they have worked to prepare for their debut on Saturday, playing in a lineup that includes Fish Tank Mafia, Happy Daze, Glycerine Queens, Windsor Circle, and New Jersey Negative Traction. The cost for tickets is $10 each, and all ages are admitted except in the bar area, where of course, you must be 21 to enter. The event will run from 4-7 pm and Alex tells me that he believes Sky Harbor will be coming on at around 6pm.
This band is so new that I do not even have samples of music to give you as I did in my two previous write-ups, for The Vinyls and The Call Out, but I can assure you, they will be worth a listen. They describe themselves as a, “Pop punk/Hardcore band made up of five guys straight out of the heart of New Jersey”. The band members include singer Augusto Cespedes, guitarists Jay Fria and Travis DeLillio, Sam Acevedo with the bass, and Alex Vazquez on the drums.
I will not be able to attend due to a previous commitment, but I have purchased a ticket to show my support. The event is also late enough in the day that no one should be experiencing any “ill effects” due to New Year’s Eve being the night before. So if you have nothing to do, and enjoy good music, I suggest you head on over to the Stone Pony to catch some good, young bands in action.
